David Odstrčil and Tara Bohak

THE PROFESSIONAL WORLD CHAMPIONS

David Odstrčil and Tara Bohak

We are dancing from when we were 5 years old as we are both coming from dancing families. David is born in the Czech Republic and Tara is born in Slovenia. Together we are dancing allready for 12 years, and during this time, we managed to achieve a lot of great reaults we are very proud of. We have been also teaching students for more than 15 years in both, standard and latin.

We both made a lot of sacrifices, interrupting our studies at University, constantly travelling between the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Italy, and deciding to pursue dance professionally. Thanks to all this we became:

  • seven times Czech Champions in Standard,
  • seven times Czech 10 Dance Champions,
  • two times European Union 10 Dance Champions,
  • finalists of the World Showdance Championship,
  • Vice champions European 10 Dance Championships
  • Third at the World Championship PD standard,
  • World 10 Dance Championships in the Professional Division.

I was born in Maribor, Slovenia. I come from a dancing family that brought dance sport to Slovenia. Maybe that’s why I had a dream since I was a little girl to become a World Champion in dance sport.

I started dancing competitively at the age of 7 at home competitions in Slovenia. At the age of 13, I also started competing internationally with my dance partner at the time, Matej Filipancic.

In 2006 with the transition to a higher age category, transferring to a sports high school, I also changed my dance partner to Alen Pavlec. The new partnership worked out great and we became Slovenian Youth Champions.

Before my current partner I danced with Alen Lesjak for two more years but this partnership lasted only until 2011, so with the end of my youth career I completely changed my lifestyle. I started dancing for the Czech Republic with David Odstrčil.

I was born in Vyškov, but I have been a Brno resident all my life. I am the oldest of the third generation of dancers and I am proud of everything my parents and grandparents achieved and what I could build on. As a child I wanted to become a World Champion, but only if I could dance with my mother… at least I managed to do the important part of this wish.

My introduction to dance sport was after all the prep classes and my favourite ballet lessons at age 9, and of the three dance partners I trained with, I went to the competition with Aneta Adamcova. With her I won four National Junior Championship titles.

With the transition to the  youth category I changed my dance partner. And after two years of training together with Beata Koblížková, we went to my first World and European Championships, where we reached the semi-finals.

For a while I also danced with a partner from Denmark, but this partnership was rather horizon expanding, but not very fruitful in terms of results. So I was happy to find a partner from Slovenia, who went from being my childhood opponent to my best friend.

JOINT CAREER

We both made a lot of sacrifices, interrupting our studies at University, constantly travelling between the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Italy, and deciding to pursue dance professionally. Thanks to all this we became seven times Czech Champions in Standard, seven times Czech 10 Dance Champions, two times European Union 10 Dance Champions, finalists of the World Showdance Championship, we brought the first medal from a titular competition of the main category to the Czech Republic (European 10 Dance Championships), we became 3. in the World Championship PD standard, but most importantly we became the first ever Czech World Champions by winning the World 10 Dance Championships in the Professional Division.
